EVENT CANCELLED: Future visions of Cambridge from the 20th Century

2:00pm-3:30pm on Saturday 13 September

Cambridge Central Library, 7 Lion Yard, Grand Arcade, CB2 3QD

In this event we will be looking at large maps of Cambridge and Cambridgeshire from times gone by, and examining some of the reports commissioned by central and local government when the powers and responsibilities of the institutions of the state had some significant differences to today.

Who came up with the idea of a dual carriageway fly-over across the River Cam and Stourbridge Common?
What were the alternative plans for Duxford Airfield before it became the IWM?
Who proposed building an new main road through Cambridge that would have ploughed through Christ's Pieces and Jesus Green?
What happened to the proposed ring road around Cambridge that was in the regional plan of 1934?

We'll have a look at what was proposed, who was behind them, and who were the people that campaigned against some significant projects - the results of which shape our lives today?
