The Lawrence Room at Girton College

2:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday 20 September

Girton College, Lawrence Room, Huntingdon Road, CB3 0JG

One of the hidden gems of Cambridge is Girton's Lawrence Room museum, where Roman and Anglo-Saxon artefacts discovered on the college site itself sit alongside artworks from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and Greece donated by college members over the years. Look into the eyes of the 2,000-year-old portrait mummy, Hermione Grammatike. Study pearlescent Roman glassware and delicate Egyptian amulets and gems. Find out about a recent excavation in the College grounds, and discover the stories of the pioneering women scholars and supporters who brought the collection together.

A tour of Girton's gardens is available as part of the Open Cambridge programme on the same afternoon that the Lawrence Room is open - why not book in and enjoy a combined garden and museum visit?
