Carolus a Carolo: A Celebration of Kings

10:00am-4:00pm on Friday 8 September
10:00am-4:00pm on Saturday 9 September

Sidney Sussex College, Richard Powell Library, Sidney Street, CB2 3HU

An exhibition of items associated with monarchs called Charles, marking the Coronation of Charles III.

The centrepiece is a magnificent folio edition of the works of Charles I, purchased in 1662 by a college eager to disassociate itself from Oliver Cromwell. There are several examples of poetry written by members of Sidney to celebrate royal events, such as Charles I's recovery from smallpox.

A rare item is the order of service for the coronation of Charles II as King of Scotland in 1651. Also on display are biographies of Charlemagne and Charles V, and items associated with Charles X of France and Charles IV of Hungary.
