From Shabtis to Suffragettes: The Lawrence Room at Girton College

2:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday 9 September

Girton College, Lawrence Room, Girton College Huntingdon Road, CB3 0JG

Come and see Girton's treasures, donated by alumnae and friends since the founding of the college: ancient Egyptian funerary figures and amulets, the unique portrait mummy of Hermione Grammatike, Greek terracotta deities, children and animals, plus Roman glassware and early medieval grave-goods discovered on the grounds of the college itself, and mementoes of the campaign for women's rights waged by early Girtonians.

New to the collection this year is a magnificent Neolithic flint axe-head and two statuettes of Chinese deities supposed to deliver wealth and success in examinations. Enjoy a walk around the tranquil wooded grounds of Girton before you go.
